Update: Roslindale Man Charged with Child Porn, Looked After Roommate's Son

A cyber tip led to the arrest of Joel Van Iderstine of Roslindale for allegedly possessing and distributing child pornography.


A Roslindale man who has been charged with possession of child pornography allegedly looked after his roommate's son more than once.

On June 20, Joel Van Iderstine, 37, of Roslindale, was arraigned in West Roxbury District Court, and charged with possessing and distributing child pornography after Boston Police executed a search warrant at his home based on a tip from an online file storage service. 

During the execution o the search warrant the suspect's roommate arrived on the scene, according to a Boston Police report. The roommate told Boston Police that Iderstine had briefly looked after his son on more than one occasion. It was determined the father would visit his son for scheduled visitations at the mother's house in Worcester. 

A report was filed with the Department of Children and Families, verbally and in writing, and the matter is being investigated, according to a Boston Police report.
