Two Murders Thursday Night

A stabbing and unrelated shooting marked the first two violent deaths of 2014 in Boston.

Boston's first two murders of 2014 occurred a little too close to West Roxbury for comfort.

Police responded to a stabbing on Margaretta Drive in Hyde Park around 6 p.m. Thursday night, where the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other man was taken into custody.

"Upon arrival, officers determined that two adult males had an altercation which resulted in a stabbing," wrote police on the department website.

Later that night a man was shot and killed on Rowe Street in Roslindale, according to boston.com. The victim was shot multiple times. Superintendent in Chief William Gross told boston.com that the two incidents were not connected.
