Malden Welding Company Linked to Deadly Back Bay Fire

A welder's torch reportedly started the March 26 blaze, which killed two Boston firefighters.

A Malden welding company may be responsible for sparking the deadly March 26 fire in Boston’s Back Bay, according to a CBS Boston report.

Welders from D&J Ironworks in Malden were working next door at 296 Beacon St. without a permit or fire detail when the blaze ignited, according to the report.

Authorities believe sparks from the welding operation got under the building’s clapboard or shingles.
