Beech Street Fire Displaces 10 People in Roslindale
A two-alarm fire that started on the second-floor porch of a Beech Street home spread up the three-family house, displacing 10 people early Saturday morning.
American Red Cross volunteers assisted three families - eight adults and two children, displaced by the fire at 461 Beech St., Roslindale, said Ashley Studley, communications manager for the American Red Cross of Eastern Mass. The families were given temporary shelter at a hotel, funds for food and clothing, and comfort kits - which include toiletries, water and snacks.
Cause of the fire is under investigation, said Steve MacDonald, spokesperson for the Boston Fire Department. MacDonald said the call came in at 4:25 a.m. with fire showing on the second floor porch, which traveled up the third floor.
Two firefighters were taken to Faulkner Hospital treated and released for heat exhaustion, said MacDonald.
Damage to 461 Beech Street was estimated at $300,000, and a house next-door to it suffered about $50,000 in damage due to its siding melting.
