Roslindale Night Out, August 20

Roslindale “Night Out” Set for August 20

On Tuesday evening, August 20, Roslindale residents and organizations will celebrate “Roslindale Night Out,” which is a continuation of the “National Night Out observation taking place nationwide.  This summer, “National Night Out” is celebrating its 30th year.  The event will take place, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (approx) at Irving Adams Park in the heart of Roslindale Square Village at Washington St. and Cummins Highway.  This is a rain or shine event.

National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to: (1) heighten crime prevention awareness, (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs, and youth events.

This year’s Roslindale Night Out will include music, entertainment, dance recitals, martial arts demonstrations, information tables from various agencies and organizations, and a series of community service awards and presentations.  The event will also include things for the whole family to see and to do, and light refreshments.

Roslindale Night Out is organized by the Boston Police Department Area “E,” the BCYF Roslindale Community Center, Roslindale Community School Council, Roslindale Parade Committee, Casserly House, and other community activists.

We hope you can all stop by to meet your neighbors.  For additional info call Mary Simmons at the Boston Police Area “E” CSO Office at:  617-343-4564 or visit the web page set up at http://nno.roslindalecc.org .
