Roslindale Artist Koeppel Featured in NYC Exhibition

Roslindale artist Gary E. Koeppel will have his work on display in The Manifestation of Milieu exhibition at the Agora Gallery in New York City

This is the second time Koeppel's work has been featured at the gallery. The exhibition is scheduled to run from June 4 through June 25, with an opening reception on June 6 from 6-8 p.m.

The following is the gallery description of Koeppel's work:

Gary E. Koeppel employs a potent combination of strong contrast and vibrant color in his oil paintings, rendering landscapes and the human form alike with arresting simplicity. Drawn to water and skies, and to the natural shades of blues and greens, Koeppel creates images of peace and serenity that evoke a sense of blissful solitude. “The elements that attract me to a scene have to do with composition, color, contrasts of light and dark,” he explains. “When I paint a tree in a field the tree becomes secondary to describing the space around it.” Distance, and the subtle interplay between foreground and background which creates a compelling illusion of space, feature strongly in much of Koeppel’s work. 

Koeppel grew up in New Jersey, across the river from New York City; the juxtaposition between urban and suburban life, and the impact of industry on the landscape, has strongly influenced his art. He has exhibited in numerous juried shows, and has also received several awards for his work.

The Agora Gallery is a fine art gallery that started in 1984 and is located "in the heart of New York City’s Chelsea art galleries district."
