Day of Dead to Be Celebrated in West Roxbury

West Roxbury children will celebrate a Mexican holiday on Tuesday.

La Dia De Los Muertos, otherwise known as The Day of the Dead, is celebrated throughout Latin America, and on Tuesday the festivities will come to West Roxbury.

The Mexican holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.

On Tuesday, the West Roxbury branch of the Boston Public Library will host a variety of arts and crafts activities to educate families about the event.

La Piñata, a Boston-based organization dedicated to promoting Latin American culture, will lead children in art activities honoring Tzompantli, the Day of the Dead ceremony.

The event is for children ages 6 and up and will run from 4-5 p.m. on Nov. 19.
