Boston School Choice Meetings - None in Roslindale for 3 Proposals - Yet
External Advisory Committee on School Choice has been meeting around Boston neighborhoods on the three proposals for student assignment in Boston Public Schools.
The External Advisory Committee on School Choice is hosting additional community meetings on the three current proposals - but no meeting has been scheduled for Roslindale as of yet.
The EAC is expected to make a recommendation on one of the three proposals by the end of February.
Boston Public Schools sent out an email asking the media to let residents know about upcoming community meetings. The goal of the committee is to help people fully understand the options the EAC is considering and to hear feedback from more members of the community.
Here is a list of the upcoming meetings:
- Wednesday, February 13 at 6 p.m. at Trotter Elementary School, 135 Humboldt Ave., Dorchester (flyers are available in English, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish and Vietnamese)
- Thursday, February 21 at 6 p.m. in East Boston (exact location to be determined)
Also, check out the interactive mapping tool that demonstrates how each of the three proposed models for a new school choice system would work. The interactive tool, as well as information on the models and an update on how BPS is improving school quality are available at bostonschoolchoice.org.

Please attend one of the meetings! I will keep lobbying for one to be held here in Roslindale or West Roxbury, but just in case - PLEASE ATTEND!
Unfortunately, since even the EAC members do not fully understand the proposals themselves, these community meetings are going to be interesting, but probably not as informative as folks think. For an idea of what is going to go on, and the info (though one proposal has since been modified) not complete yet, please see the video of Monday, Feb 4 community forum http://www.cityofboston.gov/cable/video_library.asp?id=2951
